Dr. Bloomston is a native Floridian born in Tampa and raised in Ft. Myers. During his General Surgery training at the University of South Florida he spent 2 additional years doing basic science research focused on pancreatic cancer. He then moved to Columbus, Ohio where he completed additional training in Surgical Oncology at Ohio State University. He stayed at OSU for another 9 years where he became a tenured Associate Professor and served as the Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program Director and the Medical Director of the GI Cancer Service Line for The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Dr. Bloomston maintained a national presence during his academic career publishing over 170 peer-reviewed articles and serving on the NCI Neuroendocrine task force and the NCCN Hepatobiliary guidelines committee. He has been ranked in the top 10 percentile for patient satisfaction and has been considered one of the nation’s top doctors by US News and World Report and Castle-Connolly.

Dr. Bloomston returned home to Ft. Myers in August 2015 for the opportunity to care for patients with advanced GI cancers, particularly liver, pancreas, stomach, and esophagus. His experience in these complex cancers and the operations that they require provides the expertise for the Southwest Florida community which is usually only found in large academic centers.

Dr. Bassan Allan is a Surgical oncologist and Board Certified General Surgeon who completed his training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Complex General Surgical Oncology. Following surgical residency graduation at the University of Miami, he joined UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA, where he focused on minimally invasive Hepato-Pancreato- Biliary surgery and the treatment of complex gastrointestinal cancers. He has subsequently relocated to Fort Myers where he is proud to join South Florida Surgical Oncology & 21st Century Oncology.

Dr. Allan practices Surgical Oncology, caring for patients with cancers affecting the liver, pancreas, bile duct, gastrointestinal tract and skin.
He is excited to offer the latest in the treatment of cancer using robotic and laparoscopic surgery. He will also provide treatment options for advanced gastrointestinal and peritoneal malignancies using Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemoperfusion (HIPEC).

Dr. Allan takes pride in educating his patients, making sure they have an understanding of their cancer as well as the treatment plan. He feels that your health is best managed with a team approach and keeps close communication with all treating physicians, providing multidisciplinary patient care.

Joey Jose | Nurse Practitioner

Joey is a board-certified nurse practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center with more than ten years of experience in direct patient care. He has an additional training as a First Assistant who works alongside with Dr. Allan in the operating room. He assists in performing new patient, preoperative and postoperative evaluations. He graduated with honors at South University for his Masters of Nursing Practice. He is a an active member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

About Meagan Walton

Meagan joined South Florida Surgical Oncology in November 2015 and immediately became the “go to” person for our patients. As an experienced nurse practitioner with additional training as a First Assistant in the operating room, she plays an integral role in every aspect of care for our patients. From evaluating patients in the office, to assisting in the OR, to taking care of patients in the hospital, and being available to patients during their recovery, there is no aspect of the patient’s journey that she does not touch.
